Victor Davis Hanson is de Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow aan het Hoover Institution; zijn aandachtsgebieden zijn klassieke talen en militaire geschiedenis.
Hanson was National Endowment for the Humanities fellow aan het Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford, Californië (1992-93), gasthoogleraar klassieke talen aan Stanford University (1991-92), jaarlijks Wayne and Marcia Buske Distinguished Visiting Fellow in History aan Hillsdale College (2004-), visiting Shifron Professor of Military History aan de US Naval Academy (2002-3), en William Simon Visiting Professor of Public Policy aan Pepperdine University (2010).
In 1991 ontving hij een American Philological Association Excellence in Teaching Award. Hij ontving de Eric Breindel Award for Excellence in Opinion Journalism (2002), gaf de Manhattan’s Institute’s Wriston Lecture (2004), en ontving de National Humanities Medal (2007) en de Bradley Prize (2008).
Hanson is de auteur van honderden artikelen, boekbesprekingen en krantenredacties over Griekse, agrarische en militaire geschiedenis en essays over hedendaagse cultuur.
